Maternity Sewing Patterns

I really don't need any more patterns in my arsenal. I am talented enough, or try to be, to alter my patterns to fit my baby-bump. I have a problem though. I'm addicted to sewing patterns! I know there are about a gazillion tutorials out there but where's the fun in that?
 So... here's my collection of patterns I found on the commercial pattern sites, Etsy, and whatever indie patterns I find. So here we go (links under pics)...

Etsy has the mother-load of vintage patterns. Best part is, they are under $10.00. I just bought that Simplicity 5271 to ad to my stash. The real question is- Why don't these ladies look pregnant?

Most of the patterns from the big name companies are frumpy. Here's the best of what I found. I'm eyeballing that dress in #6. I need a good knit dress pattern.

On to the indie companies. They are hard to find these companies.

 Though we all know Megan Nielson . If not you should!

 I did find Lou Lou James and boy am I crushing on these patterns.

Butterick 5219

I bought this pattern (Butterick 5219) a few years back and have never used it. In all honesty, I don't know why I bought it. It's not my style normally.  But... when I was going through my stash looking for maternity friendly patterns this one jumped out at me. 

I bought this awesome pineapple knit from fabric.com a month ago. I went knit happy on their site.

So here's the finished top in a nice mirror picture. The top is so comfortable, I can sleep in it. Unfortunately without a belt it's a bit mu-mu-ish on me. I love this top, but I'm not sure if I'll make it again without major altering.

 It's a fun maternity pattern, but I'm not sure about normal wear. Maybe in a size smaller? with a tie/ belt?

I embroiderer just one pineapple on the front yolk. What do you think?

Avon

I know I should post at least a few Me-Made-May pictures for you guys. I've been pretty good at wearing me-made about every other day. And I have a few unfinished maternity outfits to finish and post for you guys.

Now on to the news... I'm an Avon lady now! I wasn't going to do it, in fact I had no interest in Avon really. But I was sold on their new stuff, talk about cheap and cute!

Plus, the vintage Avon adds are just too fun. I think I'm going to compare the old with the new. Do a little get-the-look with the vintage adds and the new product.

P.S. gotta love the retro lip gloss. 

Me Made May Update

I was all excited for Me Made May when I realized half my clothes, or more don't fit. The clothes I've made to fit my mini bump are slowly filling out. In other words I need clothes! I'm still trying to do MMM, but it won't be 100%. My goal this month is to make some knit tops to wear that will stretch with me. And make a few maternity skirts (or more than a few).

But here's a cute Tapir that makes me laugh. I googled Tapir a while ago after reading an article in my Anthropology class. I find them cute. I set this guy as my desktop wallpaper. I giggle when I see this face.

Me Made May

So Zo has been holding a Me-Made-Month challenge for quite a few years. I missed it last year due to doing military stuff most of the month. It's hard to be me-made when you are stuck in an issued uniform. The year before I did participate and enjoyed it.

This year me-made will be a little bit of a challenge. My baby bump is slowly growing and I have already packed away a good chunk of my clothes. This challenge will help me build my maternity wardrobe and learn to dress a bump. Dressing a mini-bump is hard!

I Natalie, promise to wear at least one me-made item each day of May. I promise to share my tips and things I learn about dressing a bump, and maternity friendly indie patterns. (that promise is until the baby comes).

Colette Laurel Blouse

I've been pretty dead to the world lately. Here are my excuses 1. I'm taking too many classes that require my reading/writing skills. 2. School is just busy. AND 3. I'm pregnant! Woohoo! Let's celebrate!

So to celebrate my slowly growing bump, I call it a pudge right now, I bought the newest colette pattern. The pattern came out at a good time for me. I need some fun clothes that are loose right now. 

I also took my baby-bump as an excuse to buy a little more fabric. Luckily Lisette had their poplin on sale. I couldn't reasist the cute red white and blue print with little paper boats. Perfect for summer!

I took a few liberties with this pattern. I shortened the sleeves, I felt the elbow-length and the stripes was a little much on my small frame. The second was the neckline  One of these days I'll keep a neckline  how it is drafted to be... but in my defense high necklines make me feel like I'm choking.

Here's my "model" shot. I went down to the boat harbor by my house on the way home from work.

I'm loving the red belt. My mom Saw my shirt when I wore it over a week ago, and grabbed the belt from her closet for me to have. She was telling me she probably hasn't worn it in 30 years. The belt breaks up the pattern and gives everything an hourglass shape. The top is great sans belt too! WIN!

I had to brag. That line on the left is a seam! I love how nice things lined up on this top.

If you look really hard there is a pocket there! I love how hidden it is. I feel like I can secretly stash some candy in there.

And as a finishing thought here is my heart neckline. I have too much fun with decorative stitches. The hearts aren't noticeable, but I don't mind, It makes me smile knowing they are there.

Valentine's Licorice Dress

This is the Colette Licorice with different sleeves. I was using a heavy weight fabric and I didn't think the flowy sleeves would work. That is the only alteration I made, besides omitting the waistband. 

I love that this dress can be casual or dressed up. The best part is- its warm! I bought this red cotton at Yellow bird fabric. I was excited to buy it because it is thick and warm like wool (which I am allergic to), but it's soft and cottony. 

Christmas Dress

Here it is, a few weeks late... 

My Christmas dress! I found this cotton plaid on sale for about a $1/yd so I had to get it. I used Simplicity 4070 and added some sleeves to the dress. Because my plaid didn't want to match up on the skirt I made a belt out of some fun ribbon. 

I wore this dress for every Christmas shindig I went to. I love how festive and fun it is.
